How to read it

Each dot wants the teal door, avoids walls and neighbors, and (if checked) slides around a gray pillar. Raise the count until the gap clogs. Toggle the pillar and reset. A pillar splitting a pressure arch is a published pedestrian-dynamics result from Helbing-style social-force work (1995 onward); this canvas is a cartoon of it, not a code-compliant egress study. A few things to try

  • Start around 48 agents with the pillar on. Note how the stream splits.
  • Turn the pillar off and reset. The door often grows a packed arch — the toy’s version of a bottleneck.
  • Run density up past 80. Flow can worsen even though more people “want” out. That is the crush intuition, not a Concordia population cap.

What it is not computing

No bodies have mass in kilograms. No doorway matches a building code. No family groups, no smoke, no floor lights, no bulkheads. The status line counts cartoon exits, not survivors. If you need the civic timeline or named events, that is History, and it does not live in this canvas.

Crowd flow

Dots are particles with a desired velocity toward the door, plus repulsion from walls, neighbors, and an optional pillar. Raising density or removing the pillar often builds a pressure arch at the gap — a published result in pedestrian dynamics, not a recipe for Concordia bulkheads. Prefer reduced motion?
