Three tiers on the sketches

A compact city that cannot lean on a national grid is usually drawn with layers: a baseload plant, an envelope that harvests light, and opportunistic scavenging inside. That stack is a 21st-century planning habit, not a 2490 invoice. History does not list a fusion groundbreaking. This page keeps the Earth conversation so a Museum reader can see what later founders would have inherited as magazines and papers.

Compact fusion — planning sketch

Fusion — joining light nuclei rather than splitting heavy ones — is a real research program with large experimental machines. Compact fusion, sometimes imagined as a trailer-sized device in the 100–300 megawatt class, is a 21st-century ambition, not a working municipal plant. Planning essays sometimes say 100 MW might cover on the order of 80,000 people. That ratio is a sketch, not a meter reading. If magnetic confinement fails, the usual physics story is that the plasma cools and the reaction stops; that is not permission to bury an unbuilt machine under a city in a wiki voice of fact.

Waste heat from any dense plant is a resource or a problem. Sketches route it to turbines, desalination, or grow decks. Concordia’s growing decks are lore-adjacent civic color elsewhere; they are not proof of a named reactor.

The skin: BIPV

Building-integrated photovoltaics replace cladding with collectors instead of bolting panels onto a finished roof. The idea is Earth-real; products exist. Transparent and perovskite cells were a 2010s–2020s research wave, with early commercial claims and durability still argued in the trade press. Treat “the whole envelope is a power plant” as an emerging 2020s mix: the components are not imaginary, the city-scale yield is not an invoice. Date-stamp any confidence.

The trickle: kinetic

Piezoelectric materials make a small charge when strained. Footfall tiles have been demonstrated in stations and clubs. A single step is tiny. A concourse of tiles might light a sign. It will not, on published demos, float a climate plant. Kinetic harvesting belongs on the sketch as scavenging, labeled small, dated to 21st-century pilots — not as a second sun.

Waste heat is still energy

Farms under LEDs, lifts, and bodies dump heat into the shell. Deep-water cooling and stack-effect cores are the usual Earth answers; see Climate and site. Power and climate are one budget split across two Museum drawers.

Classroom balance

Move the sliders. Watch surplus go negative when farms and climate climb faster than the sketch sources. This is arithmetic pedagogy. It is not Concordia operations.
